Social Soccer League Season 2 Universal Raiders vs Pasir Ris Rovers Kranji Secondary School, 3.00pm
After being beaten comprehensively 7-1 by M.G. Rovers, Universal Raiders is currently languishing at the bottom of the table and is the only team that has yet to collect any points this season. After setting a minimum goal of getting the top 3 position at the start of the season, their target is starting to diminish rapidly unless they can start turning their season around. And their task will not be gettting any easier. They will be facing Pasir Ris Rovers this Sunday and they have to try to get something out of this match or they will be inching closer towards the Playoffs where it will just get much tougher. |

Where is the luck? by Adil Azfar
Social Soccer League Season 2 Magnificent 11 vs Happy Go Lucky North View Secondary School, 5pm
One of the matches to look forward to this Sunday will be between the current SSL Champions, Pasir Ris Rovers against the veteran M.G. Rovers. Having collected 1 point from two games, M.G. Rovers are still seeking for their first win and will be hoping to get them at the expense of the champions this Sunday. After their impressive 3-3 draw against last season's runners-up, Magnificent 11 in their opening game, M.G. Rovers were somewhat unlucky to lose against Crescent Rovers last week, no thanks to the two own goals that were scored by their defenders that ultimately handed the 3 points to their opponents. It is important for their players not to dwell on their result last week and focus on their task at hand. With all the teams still within touching distance of each other, M.G. Rovers need to start picking up the points before they miss out on the top three spots that will ensure automatic qualification into the semi-finals.
Pasir Ris Rovers, having not played last week and having 1 game in hand, will go into the game knowing that this will definitely not be a walk in the park. After getting a win against Damai Rovers in a scrappy match, they are eager to maintain their good start to the season and are definitely not taking things lightly. Their custodian, Fadhli said, " It was good that we got the 3 points from our first game, even though there were lots of drama in that match. This season will definitely be alot tougher. As we are the champions, all the teams will be eager to defeat us. Whatever happened last season was in the past. There's no point still living in past glory, anything can happen this season. We will just continue to play our normal game and hope for the best." Even though the season has barely started, we definitley see that this could potentially be an exciting season, with the title race going down to the wire. So what does Fadhli thinks of the standards this season? Fadhli added, " The teams this season are definitely evenly match. Its hard to predict who will win as everyone has a good chance. " Having beaten the odds last season to lift the inaugural SSL title, Pasir Ris Rovers will definitely be eager to prove that last season's win was no fluke. But with the teams quite evenly match this season, their title defence will certainly not be easy.
Interestingly enough, Pasir Ris Rovers are the only team that has yet to concede a goal this season. With their team seemingly build around a tight defence, will they once again be a formidable wall when they come against M.G. Rovers this Sunday? M.G. Rovers definitely have the players to cause their defence alot of trouble. " Even though M.G. Rovers are considered a veteran side, their scorelines after 2 games proves that they are a team not to be taken lightly. They do have the ability to cause us trouble, however, we will not be making major changes to the way we play. We will play our normal game and see what happens. " added Fadhli. With his team looking to maintain their good start and M.G. Rovers looking for their first win and potentially being the first team to defeat thier opponents, this match has all the ingredientsl to be a very open and exciting game.
Having not drawn any games last season, Magnificent 11 has surprisingly drawn their first 2 games of this season. Being one of the title favourites again this season, it is kind of surprising to see that they have yet to get the 3 points and are now sitting second from the bottom of the table but with 2 games in hand. Has lady luck deserted the team? When asked about their approach to this Sunday's game, Magnificent 11's captain, Addie said, " There will be no changes to the players' positioning. The way we look at it, in the last 2 games, we were unlucky to concede an own goal and did not capitalized when we're in front of goal. We were actually dominating the games. " So has luck deserted them? While they were dominating both games, their failure to get all 3 points could prove costly at the end of the season. With all teams more evenly match this season, any chance that comes their way has to be taken.

Surprise, Surprise by Adil Azfar
M.G Rovers had the honour of being the first team to defeat Pasir Ris Rovers. Pasir Ris Rovers, who was going through an 8 match unbeaten run dating from last season, finally tasted defeat at the hands of the SSL newcomers by losing 2-0. With this win, M.G. Rovers has moved up to second place whereas Damai Rovers, Happy Go Lucky and Pasir Ris Rovers are tied with three points. In what is turning out to be a very evenly season, even a single point will make a huge different in the standings. When interviewed after their lost, Pasir Ris Rovers custodian, Fadhli had this to say, " Even though we're not happy with the lost, at least the whole team can now move forward. We know that sooner or later we will finally be defeated and its better to lose now rather than later. Furthermore, being labelled as the only undefeated team did add pressure to some of the players, but now that it is out of the way, the team can now move on with the other games. " It can be said that their lost was somewhat a little surprising, taking into consideration that their opponent, M.G. Rovers started the season with a draw and a lost. It must definitely have been a huge morale booster, being the first team to defeat the reigning champions. However, with this being such a closely contested season, M.G. Rovers cannot get complacent and rest on their laurels. Even a minor slip up from them can be disastrous, with quite a number of teams hot behind their back"

It pays to play "clean" and honest football by Adil Azfar
There were more goals and action from Week 2. The first game of Week 2 was at Hua Yi Secondary School where M.G. Rovers went up against Crescent Rovers. Crescent Rovers continued their good start to the season with a second consecutive win, defeating M.G. Rovers 2-1. However, they had to thank two M.G. Rovers defenders for scoring 2 own goals for them. M.G. Rovers managed to score 1 but it proved to be just a consolation for them. Surprisingly, the goal for M.G. Rovers came from Joe, who supposedly plays as a goalkeeper. He certainly proved his versatility to his team by getting his name on the scoresheet. When interviewed after the game regarding his thoughts on his team's luck on getting two own goals in their favour, Ramzah, Captain of Crescent Rovers said, " It pays to play "clean" and honest football. I guess God favours the honest people in times of need and the team who promotes fairplay. "

Who Has the Upper Hand? by Adil Azfar
Social Soccer League Season 2 Universal Raiders vs Happy Go Lucky F.C Telok Kurau Secondary School, 5.00pm
The second game this Sunday will see last season's semi-finalist, Universal Raiders F.C. facing Happy Go Lucky F.C. With this being their first game of the season, Universal Raiders can be considered as the fresher team as compared to their opponent. However, that does not necessarily mean that they are the odds on favourtite to bag the 3 points. Having already played their first game last week, Happy Go Lucky can also be considered as the team with the momentum going into this Sunday's game even though they narrowly lost 2-1 against Crescent Rovers last week. With that being said, Derrick Goh, Captain of Universal Raiders F.C. said, " I don't think this will make a difference. The better team on Sunday will win."
